TUESDAY MORNINGS FEBRUARY 11 TO MARCH 3: PLAY OF THE HAND: DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS

Instructor: Gary Waldron
9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Fee: $15 per class or $50 for the whole series (even if the number of lessons is extended)
Each class stands alone, so feel free to join for 1 class or as many as you want!
Beginners who are playing in any of the SOCBC games will benefit from these classes.  Since it is impossible to determine in advance how quickly the class (and the teacher) will advance, additional sessions may be added after the first 4.

This course will explore some of the basic techniques including finessing; establishing trump, suit establishment; promoting winners and eliminating losers; and keeping communications open by managing your entries.  Special emphasis will be placed in learning by listening – to the auction –  and watching – the opening lead, the opponents’ signals and their discards.

The classes will include both a discussion of the topics covered and the play of hands incorporating the lesson.

As always, the lessons will be interactive and Gary will answer all of your questions.

February 11 – Planning the Play and You Too Can Count!

February 18 – Finessing

  • The Mechanics – there’s more to them than meets the eye
  • When they work to your benefit
  • When NOT to finesse

They always know exactly who has which honor, and exactly which line of play will yield the most number of tricks. No, it’s not clairvoyance and it’s not luck. If you are ready to sharpen your skills and to be introduced to expert level card play techniques, attend a special seminar by 2019 Barry Crane Champion Mark Itabashi.  Mark will discuss card combinations, suit establishment, end plays, squeezes and more.

Pre-registration:  A sign up sheet will be available at SOCBC in mid March.
